In the coming months we’ll be keeping you up to date with all the latest goings on at By Jove, including rehearsal updates on our upcoming Christmas spectacular Pride & Prejudice: The Panto!
But that’s not all! No…
We’re not ashamed to say we’re a politically minded theatre company. It’s plain to see that there’s still a lot of inequality and intolerance in Britain today. The society we want to see is one where everyone is given a fair chance, by our government, by our media, and by the people. Many believe that the fight for this society is over (netmums recently declared feminism ‘dead’…bizarre!) and often the most insidious bigotry is deeply encoded in products that otherwise have a squeaky-clean gloss – be they films, television programmes, newspaper articles, public statements or whatever.
As such By Jove’s blog will also be dedicated to naming and shaming aspects of our culture that encourage prejudice – and we really want to hear from you and your opinions on those cases.
Between rehearsal updates and the ‘serious’ articles, we’ll also be bringing you features associated with what we do as a company, and with our current projects. In the next few months alone we have stuff on Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, an interview with panto expert Simon Sladen, and a very brief history of panto in this country.
To make sure you never miss an update, follow us on twitter (@byjovetheatre) and facebook (/byjovetheatre). We’re also on Stage Status and LinkedIn, so if they’re your thing, say hello!
