An interpretation of Euripides’ The Bacchae devised by the company
A woman, inhibited and oppressed, strikes a deal to achieve liberation. A man, certain he is doing what is right, rails against his mother and her liberator. And a god, grappling with his own divinity, brings it to bear upon those who defy him in the most brutal way possible.
Originally commissioned for the Annual Meeting of Postgraduates in Reception of the Ancient World in 2014, Before They Told You What You Are was reworked for the annual Play! Festival at Royal Holloway, University of London in June 2015.
