CO-ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Christine is an academic, writer and dramaturg. She became co-artistic director in 2022. She is a Senior Lecturer in Classical Studies at the Open University, where she teaches ancient Greek history and culture at all levels. Her research has two strands: the study of Athenian forensic oratory from rhetorical, socio-historical, and legal perspectives, and practice-as-research work on the theatrical reception of myth.

CO-ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

A co-founder of Gentle Furies, David is a director, dramaturg, writer, and academic. He is Associate Professor of Drama and Theatre at Royal Holloway, where he leads the MA Theatre Directing programme.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

Wendy is a writer with a particular interest in women’s writing, magical realism, science fiction, popular culture, and queer performance practise. She has written and co-written adaptations of Bacchae, The Oresteia, and Medea for Gentle Furies, and produced plays independently (Beautiful Halo – One Act Festival, Stockwell Playhouse).

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

Nicole is a Long Island, New York-based theatre-maker, and founding member of Gentle Furies. She holds a BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre Studies from Royal Holloway, University of London. She also serves as Artistic Director of EastLine Theatre on Long Island, where she has directed Treasure Island, Long Ago and Far Away, and the infamous Yiddish play God of Vengeance. She recently appeared as Chana in the Long Island premiere of Indecent. Her interests include theatre history, musical theatre, Yiddish theatre, and site-specific performance. Her theatre practice is whimsical, inclusive, and based in re-invention.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

Sinead has been working with Gentle Furies since 2013. Previous productions include: Homer’s Women, Pride and Prejudice: The Panto, Othello and Before They Told You What You Are. Other credits include: Plug In: Women Aren’t Funny (Albany Theatre), Plug In (Canal Theatre Cafe), Beauty and the Beast (Lion and Unicorn), Mismatched (Old Red Lion Theatre), Jekyll and Hyde and Animal Farm (Theatro Sala Umberto), Mother Goose (Caboodle), The Power of One (Soren Bennick), and The Lonely People (Patchwork Puddle).

ARTISTIC ASSOCIATE

Woody, as he’s known to everyone, is a spoken-word poet who has been anthologised multiple times, performed throughout the UK, and appeared in the shortlists and finals of several national competitions. He is a founding member of Gentle Furies.

ARTISTIC ASSOCIATE

Gemma Storr is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, musical director, and composer. She has worked with Minds Ear Orchestra, The Quarterhouse, National Snack, and the Royal Shakespeare Company. She is the current holder of the Vice Chancellors Scholarship at London College of Music, winner of the ESCOM early career researcher prize and Psychology and Music Belgrade, and the former holder of the Headley Scholarship at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

ARTISTIC ASSOCIATE

Kit (they/them) is a non-binary writer-performer and dramaturg, interested in how we can communicate big ideas by placing the audience at the heart of the artistic experience. They are fascinated by the processes we use to create art and how technology and non-traditional forms of theatre and storytelling can be used to entertain, move, and provoke. They love performing poetry and storytelling, acknowledging the audience, and playing games.

ARTISTIC ASSOCIATE

Louise is an actor, writer and filmmaker from Belfast. She is interested in Irish myth, language and folklore, class, and the impact of conflict and colonialism on women, queer people and the environment.

Malinda is an actor and facilitator who started performing in her early teens and was a member of the National Youth Theatre and British Youth Music Theatre. She went on to train at Royal Holloway, Mountview, and Talawa. She is particularly interested in facilitating theatre for young audiences.

SJ is an actor, director, writer, and producer. She has been performing with Gentle Furies since 2011 and served as co-artistic director from 2017-2022. She is part of the Young Vic Directors Programme; her producing credits include The Hunger Games: On Stage for Troubadour.
